Rally Obedience

Rally Obedience is a fast-paced, obedience based sport consisting of numbered 'stations' with obedience exercises which must be completed according to the organizational rules by a dog and handler team. All dogs are eligable to compete in rally, either in AKC (purebreds only) or ADPT (all dogs!)

Information on ADPT's rally program, including rules and signs to download, is available here. The ADPT Rally obedience mailing list is here.

Dogstar Academy plans to offer two ADPT Rally Trials in 2008 in late May or early June. More information will be posted as soon as becomes available. ADPT Rally is open to all dogs regardless of breed or mix and is a great introduction to the world of dogsports. Dogs must be registered with ADPT in order to compete in ADPT rally competitions, so if you're interested, go ahead and get those registrations in!

In addition, we will be holding an ADPT-rules Rally 101 Class starting in February in Dallas on Monday nights. Please email for more info. This class will be 8 weeks and cover all the Level 1 signs. No previous rally experience is required but your dog must be up to date on shots, be at least 4 months old and have a basic undertanding of core obedience skills- sit, down, coming when called, walking on a loose leash with a handler. Stays and finishes are a bonus. This class will be $75 and limited to 12 students. We'll learn signs and then run a short course each week; the last week will consist of two courses and a 'mini match'.

AKC Rally Obedience is more widely available in Texas, although we hope to change that in the future. It involves a different set of rules than ADPT rally and is a little more restricted as to who can enter. Only AKC recognized purebreds (either registered as puppies or registered through the limited listing program ILP (now PAL) are eligible). There are multiple groups in Dallas-metro area offering AKC-rules rally courses and show and gos. Email us for a list. :)

RallyObedience.com has lots of good info about AKC Rally Obedience.
A general Rally mailing list (with a focus on AKC rules) is available on Yahoogroups here.
